The original house on this plot in the St. Gallen canton of Switzerland was due to be renovated, but when that plan was torn up, and a new property commissioned, architects Juan Gonzalez and Ruben Daluz were given free rein – the result is this sumptuous private home.

Constructed from three staggered boxes to maximise views of the surrounding countryside, the house uses large sliding patio doors fitted with a low threshold to enhance the impression that the garden and mountains beyond are simply an extension of the downstairs living space.
